Hello All,
Boy slow week was a partial success huh? Yeah sorry about that, as much as I enjoyed doing the reviews (if not necessarily the content), I sort of ran out of time. I ended up with an unexpected day off though so I decided to get myself back into the new movie groove (I hate myself for that joke.) So we start back off with a movie that I’ll admit had a familiar premise, nut with a twist that a lot of people don’t really do a lot: The Lame Office Party. We’ve all been to those, and people always wonder if they can be more fun than they are. Office Christmas Party looks fulfill those wishes, so how well does it pull that off? Let’s find that out together shall we?
Plot Summary - When the CEO of Zenotek Carol Vanstone (Jennifer Aniston) announces to her brother Clay (T.J Miller) that she’s closing his branch of the company. Clay then offers to land a big client in exchange for saving his branch, so he and his employees decide to throw a party in order to do so.
Pros - The cast is great, and the film does offer an okay amount of both visual gags and well written jokes.
Cons - The plot is overstuffed to the max with subplots. Some of them are cliched as hell, while others feel weirdly forced in in order to pad the runtime. You can see where almost every plot line is going to end so it just kills any interest in those stories. It also tries really hard to be sentimental as well and, while not a bad thing, it causes the film to occasionally suffer from tone whiplash. Some of the plot lines also weirdly fizzle out, and the ending is interesting and yet feels implausible at the same time. There’s also quite a few gaps in plots that leave me more confused than anything.
Final Score - 3/10
It’s a high 3, but a film with this many problems I honestly really can’t recommend it. Unless you’re really strapped for nothing new to watch maybe.
Next - Miss Sloane/Nocturnal Animals: That’s right folks it’s another double feature…..and I’m going to have to go across town for it. Goddammit.
