Double Movie Review: Pokemon the Movie I Choose You (2017) & Murder on the Orient Express (2017)

Hello All,

We’re back, sort of. Well I am, it’s just that it’s looking like the rest of the year will probably be shit and I’m more than willing to throw in the towel if it gets any worse. Vacation went well by the way, totally an unrelated statement. Let us do this thing shall we?

Pokemon Review (It’s a long title cut me a break.)

Plot Summary - Re-imagining the first season of the hit tv series, the film relives Ash Ketchum’s adventures with his very first pokemon Pikachu.

Pros - The animation is a great improvement since my last venture into the series, and it was cool to relive some of the better plot points from the season I watched as a kid.

Cons - I think the nostalgia factor for me with the animated series has worn thinner than expected, because I found this more tolerable than entertaining. The newer additions didn’t help much either, especially the new sidekicks who replace brock and misty but are just shallow copycats of those same characters. What was even the point of it then?

Final Score - 5/10

Only for active fans of the series. Everyone else is better off without.

Murder on the Orient Express Review

Plot Summary - While aboard the famous Orient Express, Detective Poirot (Kenneth Branagh) must solve the murder of a high profile gangster.

Pros - Branagh is fine as Poirot, and the setting is good looking and quite various throughout.

Cons - The rest of the cast feel like caricatures rather than characters, and the film seems more comfortable telling the story rather than showing it.

Final Score - 5/10

It’s a slow weekend folks, look for better movies. Go see Thor.
