Double Movie Review: Personal Shopper (2017) & The Zookeeper's Wife (2017)

Hello All,

So I forgot to put this in the last review, but I’m taking suggestions for my upcoming 300th review. You can suggest something here: http://freesuggestionbox.com/pub/uhrevfz and hopefully I’ll be able to do it soon. I also really don’t have much of an intro for this review, so let’s just get to it shall we?

Personal Shopper Review

Plot Summary - Maureen (Kristen Stewart) is a personal shopper who has recently lost her twin brother. When she becomes determined to receive a sign from him from the afterlife, she finds her life around her being turned upside down.

Pros - Kristen Stewart is really good in the role. It really plays her to her strength, and shows that she can be a really good dramatic actress when provided with the right material. It’s also really well shot, and it does have quite a bit of mystery, and intrigue throughout the story.

Cons - It suffers from really jarring tonal shifts, making the film feel like it’s almost in three different pieces. There are also huge chunks of film that are left to interpretation and if that’s not your thing then prepare to be super frustrated.

Final Score - 7/10

It’s just kind of alright. Like I said, it does have some really creepy moments, but the tonal shifts are just a little too jarring to make it any more than that.

The Zookeeper’s Wife

Plot Summary - Based on the true story of Dr. Jan Zabinski (Johan Heldenbergh) and his wife Antonina (Jessica Chastain) and their effort to save Jewish Refugees in World War Two Warsaw.

Pros - Jessica Chastain basically owns the film as Antonina. She carries the weight of the entire world on her shoulders throughout the film, and you can see it in every scene.

Cons - The rest of the film plays out exactly how you expect it to. It’s just your average World War Two holocaust film and at this point we have all of our own opinions on the matter so I’m just going to leave it at that.

Final Score - 5/10

It’s so average that I basically can’t add onto that. See it if you want.

Next: Smurfs The Lost Village - Tra, la, la la la, goddamn why am I seeing this?
