The Complete Series: Gamera VS Guiron (1969)

Hello All,

So when we last left Gamera, he was defending earth from space invaders while also saving a couple of kids in the process. So what’s the next logical step after getting invaded? Why going to an alien planet of course! Yeah, so if you know anything about MST3K, you might know this entry in the series as one of their (in my opinion) funnier episodes. If you can look it up, I say do so. But how does the movie stand on it’s own merits? Let’s find out together shall we?

Plot Summary - When two young boys spot a spaceship landing in field, they climb aboard looking for adventure. When the ship takes them to a planet exactly opposite from earth, Gamera follows them and comes across Guiron, the giant ginzu knife.

Pros - The monster fights are pretty cool, and the outer space scenes are really well designed. The music is admittedly kind of catchy, and there are some kind of tense scenes.

Cons - I like to describe this movie as an adorable mess. The dialogue can range from awfully clunky to just hilariously ridiculous (Including the phrase “A better world without wars or traffic accidents”.) The kids cannot act to save their lives, yet they can be funny while doing it. The stuff that takes place on earth feel like they only happen to pad out the 82 minutes runtime, and once again they use stock footage from other movies as well.

Final Score - 5/10 With a Lower Score Seal of Approval

Yeah, it’s a kind of weird that I recommend seeing. By far the strangest Gamera movie I’ve seen, I can definitely see the ironic humour in it as well.

Next in the Series: Gamera goes back to earth to take on the three horned threat Jiger.

Next Review: Suggestion Box Review Mystery Team - Early Donald Glover, this should be good.
