Hello All,
Hooray it’s time for the annual early in the year trashy romance novel style movie, and boy do I hate these things. You know before doing these reviews, I would usually skip these films, and I did walk out of When the bough breaks last year ( I regret nothing!). This time however, I couldn’t do that. This one had bigger names involved, and a lot of people were praising Heigl’s performance. So what did I think of this film? Spoiler Alert I hated it, but by how much? Let’s find out together shall we?
Plot Summary - When Julia (Rosario Dawson) moves in with her new fiancee, she begins adjusting to her new life. However, when the ex wife Tessa (Katherine Heigl) realizes that Julia isn’t going to leave, she comes up with a plan to get rid of her once and for all.
Pros - Geoff Stults as David is probably the only person in this film who isn’t a complete idiot throughout. They could’ve played the character as completely dumb but they did a good job of making him more understanding and compassionate than most of these films do. There’s also a really unintentional funny moment at the end of the film where it tries to sequel bait so goddamn hard, but there was something about the way it played out that was hysterical to me. The final confrontation is also not terrible.
Cons - Yeah, 75 - 80 minutes of the film is just awful pacing, lack of tension, so much goddamn padding, uninteresting characters, and it’s just lame back and forths between the two main actresses. As for Heigl, honestly that lady scares the shit out of me normally so this film really feels like nothing new to me in that regard. One day we’ll hear that she played the part thinking Tessa was the good guy, I swear to god. Also, and this is just me nitpicking, the tile literally has nothing to do with the movie, at all. I don’t think anyone says the word Unforgettable throughout it. I just think that’s weird.
Final Score: 2/10 - You know what, that final shot of the film gave me such a huge laugh that it made the last third of the film worth it. Otherwise I hate this movie. If you’re a fan of this kind of trash, have at it. Everyone else, stay the fuck away.
Next: The Complete Series Gamera VS Viras - The fourth film in the series, this one has Gamera going into Space. Also, Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 on Thursday Night bitches!
