Hello All,
Boy, it’s been quite some since I’ve done just a simple review. The last theatrical films I watched were on Christmas day, and it’s the 11th of January at the time of writing this. I would’ve been doing this sooner, but then I got the flu, and basically spent a full day in bed recovering from it. So now (a bit behind) I’m back into the swing of things, and today we start off with an adaptation of a true story. We all know about the early NASA space missions, but how much do we really know about some of the key people behind it? Let’s find out together shall we?
Plot Summary - The film follows the story of three african american women working for NASA in the early 1960’s. They are Mathematicians Katherine Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer), and Engineer Mary Jackson (Janelle Monae), and together their efforts helped NASA in the early days of spaceflight.
Pros - It’s overall a pretty terrific film. The three stories are interwoven nicely, along with showing us progress of how each space flight is going. The casting is spot on, as everyone easily slides into their respective roles and performs them well. The pacing is amazing, especially at 2h7m, as there's never a moment when you’re not invested into the characters and what’s going on around them at that particular moment.
Cons - There’s maybe like, one and a half moments I can kind of slightly nitpick at, if only because they’re the only slight predictably cliche moments.
Final Score - 10/10
Honestly, it’s an amazing film, and I highly recommend you see it.
Next: Underworld Blood Wars - Yeah, so I sort of took a solid chunk of time to sort out my viewing schedule for the next 4 - 5 days and this came out on top, but you can also expect 6 - 8 reviews because of that so…...yeah January is going to be crowded folks, really wish I didn’t get sick now that I think of it.
