Movie Review: The Bye Bye Man (2017)

Hello All,

Boy I hate January horror films. Last year’s The Forest ended up making my worst list as well. Maybe they think it's the cold and darkness that make the horror movies scarier, but that rarely seems to help. It also doesn’t help that the movie has probably one of the dumber names I’ve ever heard. The Bye Bye Man sounds like someone who gets a job serenading people before they leave on long trips. How does this latest January horror film stand up on it’s own scary feet? Let’s find out together shall we?

Plot Summary - When three college students move off campus to an old house, they accidentally awaken a supernatural entity that begins to possess them, and make them see things that are not really there.

Pros - Carrie Anne - Moss is in this movie, and she’s easily the best thing about it.

Cons - I say this here because it’s technically a con, but this movie is fucking unintentionally hilarious. Everything about this movie, except for the above mentioned, is awful. The dialogue is awful, the rest of the actors are awful, the horror is lame, and only had like three jumpscares, it’s padded to death with exposition, it’s full of just awful humour, the special effects are scatter brained at best, it’s can’t build up any tension, the monster and his dog look just terrible, his whole gimmick is just bait and switch bullshit, and it’s full of just godawful humour as well. When they go visit the landlord who owns the house, his name is Mr. Daisey, and he owns a flower shop. That might actually be the funniest thing in the movie, and he’s also in probably in one of the more awkward scenes as well. There’s also a bunch of stuff that happens that is clearly there to pad the ninety six minute run time, and to top it all off. they have the NERVE, the fucking GULL, to SEQUEL BAIT THE FUCKING THING. As funny as it is, this film still needs to fuck off.

Final Score - 1/10

Fuck this thing. It’s a piece of shit. Carrie Anne - Moss deserves better than this.

Next: Patriots Day - An adaptation of a true life event, what could possibly go wrong?
