Movie Review: Thor Ragnarok (2017)

Hello All,

Another vacation review, but this time it’s for probably one of the better reviewed movies so far this year. It’s actually been a great year for superhero movies (Don’t fuck that up Justice League (I said it fight me)), but does Thor really live up to the hype? Let’s find out together shall we?

Plot Summary - When the goddess of death Hela (Cate Blanchett) returns to rule over Asgard, she casts Thor (Chris Hemsworth) out, leading him to a gladiator planet where he is captured and enslaved. With Asgard facing annihilation, he must team up with old friends, enemies, and new allies in order to prevent Ragnarok.

Pros - This is easily the best film of the Thor trilogy. Finally dropping the much more serious tone of the previous films, it actually manages to turn itself out into being quite the light hearted, colourful, and hilarious film. Hemsworth ups Thor’s personality greatly, and it’s nice to see Loki and Hulk having significant roles. Hela is a tremendous villain, Valkyrie is a terrific hero, and the rest of the side characters all have their significant moments as well, without them feeling forced or overwhelming to the story. The shorter length also happens to help the story flow smoothly as well.

Cons - Because of that shorter length, the setup for the film can seem a touch rushed, so be prepared to head in quickly. For Dr. Strange fans, while his time in the film is great, it’s super limited as well. The constant bombardment of jokes in the film might make it seem like a guardians vol. 1 clone to some as well.

Final Score - 10/10

A few minor complaints doesn’t spoil what is ultimately a really good fucking movie. Geez, my year end top ten list is looking more and more challenging to fill out now.

Next: Once again, not sure - Once I’m back on a more regular schedule I’ll have a better idea.
