Hello All,
I have a lot to cover and a vacation to start so let’s get to it shall we?
Suburbicon Review
Plot Summary - When his wife is murdered by thugs, Gardner Lodge (Matt Damon) finds his world beginning to unravel as he finds worlds colliding and plans falling apart.
Pros - The cast and director are great, and there is an interesting message in it’s story.
Cons - Admittedly that idea gets lost in translation, as the whole film feels like it should be working, and yet it doesn’t. It doesn’t help that it’s painfully unfunny and suffers from numerous occasions of tonal whiplash.
Final Score - 2/10
I can’t remember the last time a film hasn’t simply not worked. It’s one of the easier skips I can recommend as well.
Only the Brave Review
Plot Summary - Following the true story of members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, from their birth to their ultimate challenge.
Pros - The cast is tremendous, and the story manages a decent mix of action and drama.
Cons - It’s a slow drama, and I’m basically allergic to those. There are sections of the story that go nowhere and just feel tacked on to padden the run time.
Final Score - 7/10’
Not the best, but nowhere near bad. I’d say take it with a grain of salt.
Spirited Away Retro Review
Plot Summary - When Chihiro Ogino (Rumi Hiiragi) and her parents enter a spirit world, chihiro finds herself having to rescue her parents from a witch by working for her in her spirit spa.
Pros - The animation is amazing, and the story manages a good balance of humour and drama throughout. It even manages to host a wide variety of characters while also keeping them all interesting as well.
Cons - The story feels a touch all over, but never enough to pull you out of it too much.
Final Score - 9/10
Definitely one of the better anime films I’ve ever seen. Glad I got to see it on the big screen.
So I’m on vacation from Nov. 2nd (2017) to Nov. 11th (2017), so there might not be as many reviews, but there will be a few here or there, so keep an eye out for those.
