Movie Review: Logan (2017)

Hello All,

Sorry about going quiet this week, I kind of needed some time to rest and recharge and this just happened to work out conveniently enough for me. It’s also the week where another film I think a lot of us have been really looking forward to, even if it means the end of an era. That’s right folks, it’s the last film of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, so how well do they end the film? Let’s find out together shall we?

Plot Summary - In the year 2029, an aging Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) is living on the Mexico side of the border, with an aging and senile Professor X (Patrick Stewart) and the mutant Caliban (Stephen Merchant). When a mysterious young girl makes her way to them, Logan and The Professor must get her to a rendezvous point before Logan’s illness overcomes him.

Pros - To put it simply, this might be my new favourite X Men movie, and is definitely in my top three for this year. It’s does a very smart move in not making it a typical superhero film, instead more playing it like the last ride of a hero. The film finally delivers the Wolverine we all want to see, as the action is just badass whenever it does happen. The cast are spot on also, especially Jackman giving it his all, and you can also include Patrick Stewart in there as well. Dafne Keen as X - 23 is a welcome edition as well, managing to keep her up to pace with Jackman in every way. The story play out rather nicely, and has also one of my favourite scenes so far this year as well.

Cons - Some might consider the film a slight slow to start, plus that X - 23 doesn’t speak for a good chunk of the movie and that might annoy some people, but they play it out rather well in my mind.

Final Score - 10/10

Some very minor nitpicks aside, the film, again, is seriously amazing. It’s a definite recommend, but please folks, keep in mind the age ratings when it comes to your kids, as in Canada I know it’s 18+ almost across the board.

Next: Before I Fall - I’m not going to cement that, it’s just that’s most likely the next film I’m going to see.
