Folks it’s getting to become the busy season again, which means that there are going to be a lot of movie reviews coming in the next few weeks. God help me. For this review, this was basically the only day I had to see this, and truthfully I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this one. So how did it fair? Let’s find out together shall we?
Plot Summary - High School Junior Nadine (Hailee Steinfeld) suffers from a pretty awkward high school life, that gets worse after her brother Darian (Blake Jenner) starts dating her best friend Krista (Haley Lu Richardson).
Pros - The cast is pretty solid, especially Hailee and supporting actor Woody Harrelson, who is easily the funniest character in the film. The story feels refreshingly honest, as it doesn’t feel like it’s pandering to its audience like some coming of age films do. The story is good, and it moves along at an okay pace.
Cons - There are it’s cliche moments, as well as some really odds tonal shifts in scenes.
Final Score - 8/10
It’s better than average by a lot, and it’s definitely worth a look.
Next: Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk/Bleed For This - That’s right folks, I’m going to try and do a double. I refer you to my earlier god help me statement.
