Hello All,
Greetings from my vacation. To answer your first question, yes I do go see movies on my vacation. Truthfully, I do enjoy seeing movies, despite what interpretations you might get from me doing this blog. It’s just that when I’m on vacation I just don’t go see every movie that’s playing (Trolls can just…….go away….). So because like I said above it is my actual birthday at the time of writing this, I went to go see a double feature today, and since I am a big fan of sharing, I decided my gift to you all today is to take some time away from my vacation to post this for lovely people. I am truly sorry. Shall we begin?
Hacksaw Ridge Review
Plot Summary - Based on the true story of Desmond T. Doss (Andrew Garfield), a world war ii army medic who refused to carry a weapon going into one of the most hostile areas in the pacific theatre of world war two.
Pros - Where to start? The cast is phenomenal, especially Andrew Garfield who puts in one of the best performances of his career. The supporting cast is great as well, and the story plays along at a wonderful pace. Another special mention goes to Mel Gibson’s amazing direction with the film, as it manages to capture a huge range of emotions over the course of it’s amazing true story.
Cons - The only thing of note is a couple of minor technical faults. You can see some people wearing fire proof bodysuits at a few points, and there’s a few shots of some warships that look noticeably off.
Final Score - 10/10
This was one of the films this year I was really looking forward too, and it’s so nice to have it meet up and exceed my expectations.
Dr. Strange Review
Plot Summary - After famed surgeon Dr. Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) gets into an accident that destroys his hands, he goes on a quest to find healing, only to come across something more powerful than he could ever imagine.
Pros - Despite my reservations, I did end up liking Cumberbatch as Strange. He brings his natural charm and charisma to the character which brings it up quite a lot. The visual effects are really cool too, and it’s nice to see a different side to the marvel universe presented in a really cool way. The cast is great as well, and the story does try to change up the straightforward manner that most origin films go.
Cons - That being said, the film still does hit the points typical of the superhero origin story in a somewhat predictable fashion.
Final Score - 8/10
I honestly enjoyed the film, and make sure to stay through the credits all the way for the bonus scenes. I’m really curious to see what they do with the character from here.
Next - I haven’t thought that far ahead. I’m still on vacation for pete’s sake.
