Newest Review is LIVE!!! Let's go out and hunt with The Huntsman
Hello All,
How many of you remember Snow White and The Huntsman for anything else other than the fact that it ruined the relationship between Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart before they filmed the last two Twilight Movies raise your hand? How many of you actually raised your hand? Don’t worry I counted it, and no you don’t want to know how I did it. Now for the actual movie itself, I remember it being fairly okay. It wasn’t anything special except for being an interesting take on a really old story. The best thing to come out of it in the mind’s of a lot of people was Charlize Theron as the evil queen, and Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman. Now if they were to make a sequel, they would have to find a way to not have Kristen Stewart involved because that would be bad press. The only other option then? A prequel/sequel hybrid involving the Huntsman that somehow brings the dead Evil Queen back. What could possibly go wrong with that idea right?
Plot Summary - Set before and after the events of the previous film, it finds the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) trying to live a quiet life, until word gets to him that the evil mirror has disappeared during transport to a safe haven. With the help of a former lover (Jessica Chastain) and a group of dwarves, they must recover the mirror before it falls into hand of the evil queen's Sister (Emily Blunt.)
Pros - It is a pretty decent looking fantasy film, and the acting for the most part is fine.
Cons - That being said, it suffers from being generic as all hell. There’s not a single thing here except for maybe the setting that hasn’t been done both before and better. The actors for the life of them cannot pick an accent and stick with it. Sometimes, they’re Irish, sometimes Scottish, sometimes English, and some don’t have accents with make it more confusing. Also, for a movie surrounding snow white, they only show snow white from behind once. If this was it’s own separate entity, it would probably be a lot better because it wouldn’t have to try and wrap itself around the other story.
Final Score - 2/10
If it hadn’t been made as a snow white related story it actually would’ve probably gotten a 5, an average film, but as a sequel/prequel hybrid it really contributes nothing to the original story.
Next: Miles Ahead or Hitman Agent: 47 - Depending entirely on what I feel like doing tomorrow.
I forgot to put it in the last review but if the twitter account hits 25 followers I will make a poll for you to decide what specialty review I do.
So basically it’ll be between:
- The Complete Series
- Retro Review
- Bad Movie I Love
- Good Movie I Hate
- DVD Review
- Fresh Perspective
If I get to 15 followers, I’ll add the names of the movies or series onto the end of those choices. I will do some in the meantime, but I have special choices lined up for those.
Twitter account is here: https://twitter.com/RyansMovieBlog
Until then, I’ll see you folks at the movies.
