Movie Review: Trumbo (2015)

Hello All,

I apologize for not getting this out last night, I have a lot of films to get through in the next few weeks, including theatrical releases, and the remainder of the Rocky films. So like I said the next little while will be packed, leading up to one of the biggest releases of the year…...but for now, let’s bring it down to a film that I was actually quite interested in seeing, and had to go downtown to see, the autobiographical drama Trumbo. So did it meet my expectations? Let’s find out together shall we?

Plot Summary - The film follows the life of screenwriter Dalton Trumbo (Bryan Cranston) and his life from his blacklisting in Hollywood in 1947 for being involved with communism, and his struggle to find and produce good work in the aftermath of it.

Pros - Bryan Cranston is phenomenal as Trumbo, probably one of the best roles he’s ever done.  The supporting cast is also solid and is helped up by a very truthful and heartfelt and also heart wrenching story of his struggle to survive amongst prosecution. It also tackles the mindset of the average american and manages to show both sides fairly and accurately as to how they both acted during this time.

Cons - The only thing I can think of is that if you don’t know that much into american or film history, then it might not be as compelling in that sense, but I feel like the movie on it’s own is good enough to win almost anybody over.

Final Score - 10/10

I can’t deny my enjoyment of this movie. If you can see it I say do it.

I got two more Rocky films to go, I’ll post the second half of the series when I can. I just have to get Rocky 5 and Rocky Balboa.

Until then, I’ll see you folks at the movies.
