Hello all,
The only reason I am doing this tonight is because through a lucky coincidence that I was able to go at all. I am grateful for the opportunity, but it’s also now early friday morning for me so I’m gonna keep this one short.
Plot Summary - Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) is a former burglar fresh from jail who wants to go straight. After his attempts fail, he ends up unknowingly robbing the house of Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and stealing a strange looking suit. After he puts on the suit though, Scott is thrust into a plan formed by Dr. Pym to save the world.
Pros - Everyone is on point acting wise, but the big three I want to mention are Paul Rudd as Scott who is honestly just a solid dude exactly how Paul needed to portray him. A man trying to do the right thing the best way he thinks he can. Second is Michael Douglas as Dr. Pym. He brings some solid emotion and depth to a character who, if you knew anything about him from the comics, was actually kind of a massive asshole. And lastly, Michael Pena as Luis, Scott’s cellmate and friend and honestly sort of the great comic relief in this movie. The action scenes are pretty solid too as they do some interesting and even kind of funny things when it comes to their sizes and the perspectives they chose to take with those. The last big thing I wanna touch on is the awesome cameos, which I’m not going to mention, but stay through the credits. All of them. There’s also great humour spread throughout the film.
Cons - It doesn’t quite match the spectacle of some of the other films but I think the (no pun intended) smaller scale of the film actually works in its favour, making this more of just an observation for others. Other than some small clunky exposition and one kind of forced upon you sad moment that doesn’t quite hit the mark, it’s still pretty good.
Final Score - 9/10
If Guardians was the most fun Marvel Movie, than this would be a pretty close runner up. It didn’t try to take itself as seriously as other films and it works better for it.
I have the day off tomorrow so I might stay in and watch the next Mission Impossible film, then I’m going to try and tackle Trainwreck over the weekend.
So until then, I’ll see you folks at the movies.
